Unrequited

It’s easy and simple to love our neighbor and do unto others as we would like them to do unto us.

When the mortgage is covered for this month, the bills paid and the steak is cooked just right, it’s easy to be grateful. Nothing wrong with enjoying the high tide.

The key is what we do when the tide is low. When we can’t cover our bills. When we lose the job. When the stress is unmanaged and we sleep in separate rooms.

Who among us has developed the fortitude to continue to give when all we give is unrequited?

If we can find a reason for doing so, it’s as easy as high tide.
